How sad you don't see wonderful bits like this today, but then how many REAL clowns are still on the road today?

Standing on stilts would make this

a serious balance issue & dangerous

Many believe when shows closed the Cookhouse...{Real}Clowns/Alleys dried up..

Some Believe when the Money dried up...{Real}Clowns/Alleys dried up...

Others still believe when the Shrine Clowns came along...{Real}Clowns/Alleys dried up...

I personally believe The Tide Gag and its 57 varieties enabled the common smuck to don Steins white and become a Merrie-maker was the Real cause which indirectly lead to all of the above and cause the {Real} Clown/Alleys to dry up...

But Hey, Who has the motivation/dedication to bring back the Atomic Hair-grower Today anyhow?...

Chic,
I always wondered how the heck Barrie Sloan did it on Beatty Cole all those years with out falling and busting his rear.
Beatty Cole back then played many dirt lots and very uneven grounds.
And he was way up high.

Barrie took at least a few busters

that I was aware of & probably many

more that I wasn't & his issues were

not only the rough terrain but the

stray guy lines he couldn't see

Most often someone would walk the

track ahead of him for protection

Shelagh was just as threatened

In Paul's case however the balance

of those incredible props must have

added great difficulty to the stilts

Paul many of those boxy props were

only as entertaining as the antics

My favorite was the firehouse when

we had those tiny fire engines being

driven by dwarfs & the clowns with

the round catch net that kept missing

the baby by their frantic running

Kenny Dodd produced some great gags

the Mehron Company bought the title

In the early 80's I was one of 8 professional clowns on a well regarded Shrine date.

Shock was felt throughout the show because the year before there were 10 clowns.

Even the acts and the band members were shaking their heads in disbelief that the alley was cut.

Who knew?

Gary although the dinosaur could have

had another understander I believe

the protrusions of this horses knees

look like his feet on the stilts here

& the other horse's photo has very

skinny legs that don't look human
