A bit of trivia: Lux soap was the sponsor of the long-running radio show THE LUX RADIO THEATER, which for many years, was hosted by C.B. DeMille.

What Norma Desmond actually said was, "Let me wash my face with Lux before my closeup, Mr DeMille.

I have the Lux Radio Theatre audio the night it was hosted by Lionel Barrymore. The episode was POLLY OF THE CIRCUS, starring Loretta Young. The guest star for the Lux Facial Soap commercial, reading sides along with Mr. Barrymore, was Mabel Stark.

Gloria Grahame was quite a colorful girl. The DeMille picture was big for her, but bigger was her Supporting Actress Oscar in that time frame for THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. My friend Tommy Napoli retired as first trumpet for Beatty-Cole, to become a mail carrier in L.A. Miss Grahame used to open her door for the mail, and he said she was among the most vivacious and genuinely nice people he had met in show business. She was a little more colorful than some fans may remember--she divorced one husband, director Nicholas Ray, and later married his son. Her former son-in-law was then her husband, and her former husband became her father-in-law.
