When Dave Price and I visited Peru in '95, we met a man named Richardson, who told us Mix used to sit outside his wagon, or private rail car, and people could wave as they went by, but were not welcome to approach Mix any closer. This same Mr. Richardson also advised he had never known Clyde Bay-tee, but was good friends with Clyde Bee-tee.
I was in Peru yesterday. Pick-up the Side Show ticket box I bought at the Paul Kelly Auction in 1997, which my friend, Tim Bessianno has stored for me.
Another respected actor making do with Bay-tee, is Ned Beatty.
On Clyde Beatty's "mystery guest" appeatance on WHAT'S MY LINE?, host John Daly introduced "Circus owner and wild animal trainer Clyde Bay-tee." The panel hadn't guessed him, and the supremely erudite Bennett Cerf, publisher at Random House, inquired, "But isn't it Warren Bay-tee, and Clyde Bee-tee?" Our guy simply smiled and said, "It's Bay-tee," and Cerf stood corrected.

The famous Tom Mix in his heydays. Highest paid circus performer of all time. On the great Floto show before his Tom Mix cIRCUS

Movie actress Shirley McLain"s real name was Beatty but in an interview she said she changed because all her life she had to keep correcting people.

But Shirley's brother got along using Warren Baytee, probably less eccentric and/or particular than his sis.
