Hello Mr Herriott,

This is the Zoo of the city of Lyon in France. It is located in the Parc de la Tête d'Or (the Golden Head Park) which is like Central Park in NYC. It's a classical type Zoo and it's free for all visitors.

The Elephants are under quarantine since 2010 after two of them has been tested positive to tuberculosis. They never managed to test Java.

The Elephant house and enclosure are very outdated and are not going to be modernized. The Zoo is not going to have Elephants in it's collection in the future. A few years ago Circus Pinder sent Baby and Nepal to the Lyon Zoo because they never got along with the show's two other Elephants Dehli and Sabah.

Speaking about « sanctuaries ». Europe just got apparently his first one in the South of France. It's called Elephant Haven (the name says it all...). As far as I know they don't have any Elephants on their property at the moment. It seems that it's going to be the same kind of place as PAWS and TES in Tennessee. They share the same lovely statements and reflexions concerning Circus Elephants.

All the Best.

Vincent
