The last leg of my flight back with the elephants was on KLM, Heathrow to Kennedy..
I recall that we flew the horses to Japan and back and was told that the traveling boxes [three horses to a box. We had 16 horses, two camels and two llamas. camels each single and smaller llamas doubled up]. I was told that this equip.for horse trans. was exclusively from Lufthansa and rented by various air cargo firms and it was as each box was lettered Lufthansa. I believe a number of these boxes were stored at various major Int. airports. They were sanctioned by various humane and horse organizations and air lines would only allow them to be used.johnny. This was for the RBBB gold unit in Japan. The reason for flying and not a ship was the length of time aboard plus the couple weeks in quarantine. Our six ponies went on aother plane but on a pallet big enough for all six but coming back they went with us on a cargo plane. With the horses we were the last thing loaded on a huge 747 that was full of stuff. I stood outside before getting on and looked at this monstrous plane knowing that it was full and could not believe it would fly but it did. We had acc. for four of us in those nice upper seats and even bunks, plus refreshment. What and give up show biz. We landed enroute in Fairbanks and watered the horses while they refueld. Our route was the same as that 747 that had been gunned down previously
