Hugo arrived on the Ringling lot June 20, 1947 at Pittsburg, Pa. and seen here six days later in Brunswick, NJ with a newly imported African "Emily" possibly due to his expertise with African elephants.
However for some reason when he was sent to Sarasota Quarters in early August he decided on taking the young adult "Sudan" the last of the 1936 "Pygmy Africans".
A strange choice.

Buckles,
What great photo's!!!!! I am grateful to you for sharing them. Possibly Hugo, like many trainer's took one look at Sudan and thought, "That's different. I have never had my hand's on one of those. I wonder what it is all about? I believe I would like to have a go at that."
