My Dad wrote on the back: "Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus Brooklyn, N.Y. May 16, 1936." The eagle-eyed elephant buff will spot Elephant Supt. Larry Davis at left (wearing the white tie) displaying one of the three "Pygmy" African Elephants imported that season. From my 1936 Route Book: May 11-16 Brooklyn, N.Y. "The first showing of the season under canvas on a new lot in Brooklyn was all that could be expected. Everything was set up and ready for us on our arrival from Boston. The mighty spread of new white canvas was a cheering sight to all our eyes. Two new innovations caused a deal of favorable comment, the "Florence Nightingale" our Hospital Car and the new Commissary Wagon. The attendance here was very good except for rain on Wednesday." |
