From Buckles:
On the subject of artwork, Shannon and I had lunch yesterday with Jim Elliott and Randy Peterson at Beef O'Brady's, during which Shannon mentioned taking his family to see "The Avengers" and how packed the theater was.
I'm surprised to hear that since those characters weren't that hot when they were first created.
In those days I read 'Lil Abner and Pogo Pussum.
Today it's Pearls Before Swine and Non Sequitur.

One of Pogo's confidantes was the turtle "Churchy LaFemme" plus the ominous Pastor "Sarcophagus Macabre"

His most constant companion was

Albert the alligator & my favorite

running gag was the variation on

a theme of a political name on the

transom of the rowboat which I had

no comprehension of for many years

It was good fun on many levels

One Saturday they bused our football team up to Fayetteville to see a Razorback football game.
During the halftime show, Walt Kelly was introduced and paraded around the field perched on a convertible.
Such was his fame at the time.
