I was trained at Ft. Sill, OKLA. as a cananeer on a 105 Howitzer and when I was in a Repodepo in Japan was transferred to the b26th Infantry scout dog platoon in Frozen Chosen [Korea]. Got the Combat Infantry Badge of which I am quite proud. johnny
Congratulations to all the men and women who have served and currently service in the armed forces at home and around the world.
Today, Saturday, May 19th is Armed Forces Day.
FROM WIKIPEDIA:In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. It falls near the end of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May.[24]
The day was created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard – following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but the separate days are still observed, especially within the respective services.[25]
The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions and air shows. In 1962, President Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday. The United States' longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, Washington. In 2009, Bremerton celebrated the 61st Armed Forces Day Parade([26]).
Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May.
Thanks to all who served in our military to allow us the opportunity to enjoy the circus and it's history freely.
Happy Armed Forces Day.
I served my time in the Coast Guard
(AKA the shallow water navy if you
want to start a bar fight) which
was a component of the Treasury
Dept from its creation in 1790 up
until the Dept Of Homeland Security
took it over (poor choice indeed)

"Today we honor and celebrate the men and women of the United States armed forces. The Armed Forces Day celebration began when President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. “The Coast Guard is unique among the Armed Forces. We have distinctive authorities, competencies and capabilities not found in any other organization that enable us to protect those on the sea, protect America from threats delivered by sea, and protect the sea itself,”

I assisted in keeping Baltimore
Harbor safe from all harm while
stationed aboard a decommissioned
Navy PCE (Patrol Craft Escort) that
was securely cabled to the dock
in Curtis Bay (so that no harm
would come to it or us as well)
I was a draftee in the Army from January,1969 to January,1971. Basic training and cook school at Fort Knox and then on to Germany for 18 months. I ended up at a Nike Herc missle site in Opherdiecke, Germany cooking for 20-25 people every day that I was on duty. One week I worked Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The next week I worked Tuesday and Thursday and then had to do the ration run on Friday. It was "knock duty" and it beat going to Vietnam as a cook (I was fortunate to have a no combat MOS because of my eyesight). I never got to see a circus in Germany, but I was not really in a circus mood at that time. I wish I would have asked Gunther if he ever played Dortmund, Germany with Circus Williams. By the way OD means "over dirt" not olive drab.
Many thanks to all of the veterans for their service over the years!
