"Big Otto" #4

This "Big Otto" poster was not part of the Roland Butler series of posters and dates from the mid-1960s. The half-sheet flat shows the hippo in a cage wagon in a menagerie scene. In reality, "Big Otto" was a midway "pit show" kept in a semi-trailer near the Side Show with a separate admission charge to see the beast.

This looks like it was copied from an early Strobridge printed Ringling-Barnum window card from the 20's.

I remember Big Otto well. His keeper was "Captain" George, who took it upon himself to snare any hapless fan on the midway and deliver endless lectures on the operation of the circus.
