Earlier there was discussion about how poster images were reworked by various circuses and lithograph companies over the years. Depending on your perspective, nothing was more egregious... or perhaps as creative as the Erie Litho and Ptg posters that were recreated (stolen?) by Acme Litho of Hugo, OK in 1965.

Acme took advantage of the then-current copyright laws which said that if a copyright wasn't renewed after 28 years that the work went to "public domain" and the copyright was no longer enforceable. As a result a number of very fine posters - were reworked with the titles of truck shows like Beatty-Cole, King Bros., Sells & Gray and others. A few of them are shown here. This is the original Al G. Barnes Sells-Floto litho which was created by Erie Litho in 1938 and reworked by Acme in 1965.

Chris,
What a great way to start the day off and many thanks.
I think it was Fred Pfening that supplied Acme the real posters for making copies.
Any body know how you take an original circus poster and make a color copy for printing????
I am sure you would have to make color separation copies.
And maybe 8 by 10 or larger film negatives for printing as they have to be sharp focus for good printing.
Any printing comments are greatly appreciated.
