The story as I recall it being told to me and most likely even more enhanced before it got to me was that Tory is standing by the lead horse of a carousel that now is in the back yard of a wealthy man who was too poor to ride this Merry – go – Around as a child. This particular horse Jim Monahan kept before selling the ride. I was told that Mr. Monahan made a sizable profit from the deal even after purchasing a brightly lit sort of molded plastic disposable carousel to replace the historic piece of art. Sadly, only a few of our few guest noticed the difference.

Seems like the rich Monaham being referred to is the owner of the "Domino Pizza" chain. He also had the multiple Miniature horse hitch that was driven by friend who is now married to Candy Garden. Maybe I am wrong but something is ringing a bell in my memory. Someone please comment. thanks, johnny

It is actually Dale Alexander

(that you mentioned John) that

owned & trained the miniature

horse hitch that was contracted

to Domino & I believe he had a

second hitch as well (maybe for

a 7 Up rig) That's Kandy with a

K & they are comfortably retired

in Petersburg Tenessee

One of my elephant hands at the park, told me that a Ringling official, whom I'll not name, who came there regularly on business, offered him $1,000 if he would toss one of those horses over the fence at night.

At around the time when the Captain took the herd and a few good men and women to the Show, the powers that be in the park decreed that all the “show” clown would have to join the hopeful park clowns and meet and greet between and before shows. It was more work with the no more pay so about half the alley blew the show which in turn opened a path for me to scab my way in. Bill Lang stayed and to comply with the new ruling he’d take a nap in the coach seats on the carousel until the music rudely brought him and the park to life. I think that in 1976 when I started the musical instruments in the hub of the ride still worked, but as the years spun by the unmanned band was replaced with tape and big speakers.
