I did quite a bit of elephant trading my first year at the park and somehow managed to get the whole herd crummy.
After oiling all 18 I made the mistake of leaving them out in the Florida sand overnight and they dried up too fast, killing the lice and not the nits.
Had to do it all over again but this time kept them in the barn til all the little buggers were gone.

I like this, theres too many dried up elephants nowadays.

In Stockholm we followed an old tradition, during the winter, when moisture in the stable went low because of cold temperature outside, to oil the elephants with fat from brown bears. Went fast into the skin within minutes, but created a dangerous environment for a couple of days, making the floor slippery.

Later, when in sweden again, I took care of some elephants with very dry skin, and tried with rapeseed oil, (Brassica napus) which was also OK.

Once youve been to Asia, you know that elephants skin should not feel like sandpaper.

Nowadays, elephants lack footcare, skin care, and muscle training, but they have protected contact, dru skin and abdomen oedeamas.

Now and then development go backwards...
