Nice shot of the big top crew raggin' out the top.
In '55 while visiting Smokey I could hear their short, choppy chant, REAR BACK!...Jump...Jump...Jump...Jump!...Wogalong!
Also seen is the working men's doniker top and the eagle-eyed observer might notice the wind-flaps between the center poles which in theory would catch the breeze as it traveled up the tent and force it down upon the audience.
Got quite a bit of play by the Ringling Press at the time but I asked several people on the show if it helped and I got a unanimous "Hell No!"
It was also pointed out to me that the heat in those dressing areas under the seat wagons was unbearable, no ventilation of any kind from any direction.
I thought those flaps were only
there to cover the ridge lacing
The "ventilation" story sounds
like something from the PR dept
Chic--
(Off subject) Nice to see your workmanship, along with your name among the Wicked credits, in Norfolk last week. Amazing how Glinda can maintain her balance on the flying rig.
Chic,
There were tennis type nets under the flaps. When the flaps were tied up, some of the heat would exit the top. Not a bad idea, but it just didn't work. Same as the air-conditioning back in the 30's.
