Dear Buckles,

In researching the history of my hometown Lynchburg, VA I have come upon several pictures of circus tents and the Ringling train. Most likely these pictures were taken in the 1940’s or 1950’s. I have been told that you might be able to help obtain the exact locations that Ringling and other shows may have played in Lynchburg.

Here are links to some of the pictures. http://www.flickr.com/photos/retroweb/6606718499/in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/retroweb/6607780899/in/set-72157625919108441/

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

These sure are nice photos.
The article indicates 1952 which appears to be right. I looked it up and Lynchburg was a two day stand that season Oct. 28-29.
Most circus people only remember a lot when it is unusually nice or terribly bad.
Maybe someone can add to this.

The circus still only comes by for two days, all these years later. I'm hoping someone will remember the lot location. Thanks for your help!

The runs were at the 12th Street yards, and the lot was several miles away at what was then called "Harvey's Field". It is near where the Kroger store is now at the corner of Forts Road and Wards Road. If you check the library for local newspapers from late October 1952 you will get more information on the performance, etc.
