When I see realistic lion status I am reminded of the Steven King book the Shinning where the Topiaries came to life and charged when you turned your back on them.
It is said that Edwin Landseer, who created the heroic lions of Trafalgar Square, had never seen a living lion at the time, but he had studied the anatomy of housecats and the body of a dead lion at Exeter Exchange (which has been discussed earlier on this Blog).
