Having Kit present the lion act without Blaney might very well have been inspired by an event from the career of Harriett Beatty. As related in JUNGLE PERFORMERS, she once filled in for Clyde at an indoor performance in Milwaukee when he was sick in bed. Harriett, too, received a well-deserved ovation after the act was over.
