Smiley’s opportunity to get rid of Lola comes during the finale of the lion act. After all the lions have left the big cage, Sultan, a particularly dangerous lion is let in just so Lola can face him on her own.

This is a better view of how the wagon was used. The animal gate was a simple frame in the arena, placed to correspond with the height of the wagon gate. The wagon wheels were scotched against movement away from the arena when the lions would dive upwards through the gate to go home--sometimes two at a time. This wagon had three sections which could be closed off, like most cage lines, to separate animals who didn't get along.

In the years after Jungleland's auction and closing, I have located the small portable building that served as Mabel Stark's dressing room, which later became mine. But I have never found anyone who knows the fate of this cage wagon, built from scratch at the Compound by Benny Bennett and Earl LeGrand.
