I’m assuming that this caption was supplied by the Milner Library and that it was written by someone sympathetic to PETA’s position. It should really read “The Ringling Brothers have seen issues arise over the years from PETA and other activists groups for the ALLEGED mistreatment of their animals. The elephants in particular.” (I’m sure that Braathen, who was a lawyer, is spinning over how his photos are being used in this manner to help promote anti-circus sentiment.) Here is a situation where a flood of e-mails to the Milner Library complaining about the bias in this caption might actually do some good.
