Interesting insight on AutoTrain. Circuses educated others in various aspects of logistics back into the late 19th century. Feeding hundreds of people in quick order and moving people, animals and equipment in quick order were two aspects of considerable interest to military forces here and in Europe. The freight world has substantially moved on from "circus style" piggyback operations to double stack containers.

The car on the left is a strange
looking open top bilevel
Some of you may know that folks
from the original group intending
to build & run the Autotrain
visited the show to learn how to
prepare the bilevels & crossover
plates as well as the 2 level
ramps for loading the cars
After the private group failed
Amtrak reestablished the service
with both bi & trilevel cars &
have made a great success of it
It runs 2 trainsets from Lorton
Virginia just South of Washington
to Sanford Florida just North of
Orlando in both directions daily
Just for clarification that is
1 train in each direction a day
Each train has several coaches
& an observation car & a diner

can be handled with incredible
automation in loading & trsnsfer
