These elephants came to the Walter L. Main Circus in 1902, placing them all in their mid-40's when this picture was taken. They sure are in good shape. Their entire careers had been spent traveling by baggage car including 1926-37 with the Bertram Mills Circus in England. The Arena must have been nearby, looks pretty chilly.

George Powers great-grandaughter, Deborah Danton, who I knew very well, passed away the past April. Her mother was George Powers grandaughter.
