1936 Circus Emotions!

While on the subject of photos that appeared in LIFE Magazine, here is one from the December 7, 1936 issue. The original caption reads “CIRCUS EMOTIONS catches the moment when the trapeze artist, having purposely missed her partner’s hands, hurtles towards the ground-only to be caught safely by a thin wire tied around her ankle. The white-haired gentleman is Giovanni Martinelli, opera star.” (This photo dates from an era when going to the circus was still considered a black-tie occasion.)
