From Richard Flint #1

Buckles, In reading my way through Billboard, this evening I happened across the following, which relates to the fathers of two of your great blog supporters. Perhaps you can dig up some appropriate photos to go along with the following:
In a review of the 1918 Ringling show, Billboard reported that “Jack Le Claire is hunting the black cat, one of the funniest walkarounds on the track."

Dad used to call it"Felix the Cat".
The costume was black, cat like with a very large thick tale that was attatched to a board inside on his but and the tail projected so that movement of his behind would look like a car waving hihs tale. The head was comic cartoon like with big ears and nose and the eyes were made to light up. They had the screens around the lights like iris of the eye.Dad could see through these screens. This goes back quite a ways. In later years he allways used it as a car wandering around during the fire house number. You have to remember the contracts read that every year the clowns had to produce at least one new and original number. Jackie LeClaire
