Ole Whitey said...: Not to put too fine a point on it, but President Truman declared September 2nd, the date of the signing of the surrender aboard the Missouri, to be V-J Day and on that day we had a big parade in Nashville.

My mother and one of her sisters took all the kids to see it and I brought home a nice American flag.

Aug 14th was the date that Japan announced their surrender and there were spontaneous celebrations all over the world including Beloit and many did consider that date to be V-J Day.; 31 October, 2011 12:54

I believe you were there.
The train didn't get into town until about noon and the matinee didn't start until 4:3o PM. There were still system flats and newly built wagons that hadn't been painted after the wreck in Minnesota. Our dad's sat in the backyard in Joe Taggart's old Lincoln and looked thru a box of stuff that your dad had just picked up.
