In 1941, a professional motion picture camera crew photographed that year’s edition of the Cole Bros. Circus. This footage was later acquired by Eugene Castle, who edited it into a 1-reel short subject for the home movie market titled HERE COMES THE CIRCUS. Released in 1942, HERE COMES THE CIRCUS remained in the Castle Films catalogue until 1967. Literally hundreds of 8mm and 16mm prints of this title were sold over the years, and most of you are probably familiar with this film and might even have a copy of it in your collection.

In addition to the 1941 Cole Bros footage, Castle included some footage of Clyde Beatty's act. Of course Beatty was no longer with Cole Bros but the act shown has him using the pedestals which he had built for the 1935 Cole show and I assume must have been taken while he was the featured performer of that show.
Castle also had two other films of Beatty: one was from "The Big Cage" and consisted of footage from his act in that movie and the other was shot at his Ft Lauderdale Jungle Zoo and was called "Clyde Beatty's Animal Thrills."
In Margaret England's 6th Grade class, I campaigned for this film from a list she had. My eager supporters won by a show of hands, and it was ordered and shown in our Vis-Ed room to wild acclaim.
