These units move overland because some equipment must be set up and ready when the show train with its collection of animals arrives. For example, animal stalls have to be in place so that stock can be unloaded as soon as possible and brought directly to the building. Often, this is a special siding nearer the building and available only temporarily so that the animals have a shorter distance to reach a building than do all the wagons. Also, the flats are often not even spotted when the animals are headed to the building and so trucks used to help move the animals from the train travel overland empty. |
