My grandparents lived a little east of the lot at Washington & Central. I remember the animal walks from the train yards going up Washington Blvd. ~frank
Frank- They used those runs at 8th and Alameda so they would have come right by your corner.
The Mode O'Day building is still standing. An old photographer named Harry Quillen used to go up in that building every year and photograph whatever show was on the lot.
When the present building at the old Washington and Hill lot was under construction there was a barricade around the site and an old Beatty biller named Joe Shelhorn, who was doing local posting at the time, slapped a bill up on the barricade as his way of saying goodbye to the old lot.

We see from the bellies, the guy-out gang hasn't been around yet. But alas, here they are, summoned to duty, in the shot below.
