When I was a "gofer" in the 1956 RBBB press office at the olde Garden, I was given an OFFICIAL press pass with the number ONE on it.
As a kid and big fan, I was on "cloud nine" and so thrilled with having THE number ONE!
That is until the wonderful press agent, Ken Mayo, in order to keep me from feeling badly when I found out otherwise, revealed to me that "Frank, just so you know, there are COUNTLESS number ONES".
Frank: I hadn't thought of Ken Mayo for many years. Ken and his first wife had split up years earlier and long afterward after other marriages, ran into each other and ended up getting remarried after being apart for a long long time.
Interesting story but Ken would tell it over and over and over. His wife would say, "Ken, everybody's heard the story several times- please stop telling it."
It is wonderful that Ken Mayo is remembered by others! Leave it to you!
When RBBB closed in July,1956, Ken got a new job reporting for the New York World, or Telegram, or Sun. This was before the many mergers started, I think. At some point it became the New York World Telegram and Sun. Sadly true!
Ken attended the 1957 RBBB, olde Garden, grand opening performance. He was covering the show to write a review for his paper. Afterward he said "Lets get a drink at the Belvedere bar".
I replied,"Don't you have to write a review immediately?". Ken responded,"I already filed it this afternoon". "I knew most of the acts that were going to be here, so as a former long time press agent, it was easy to write a good review".

So much for being Numero Uno.
