According to Joe Bradbury, who visited Ringling’s winter quarters while DeMille was there doing location filming, this is Cage No. 95, a old style Ringling cage wagon that was no longer being used. (The timbers are supposedly repairing damage to the bars that was caused by the train wreck.)

Too bad it wasn't "old" enough to use the orginal wheels, rubber tires on a circus wagon just don't look right! ~frank
I believe the pygmy hippo Betty Lou rode in this cage in the parade.
Joe was correct. The cage body was one of the 1893 Moeller-assembled series for Ringling Bros. Thayer and Conover wrote about them in Bandwagon.
