In the background and barely visible can be seen the marquee of a movie theater that was located along the parade route. I once saw a publicity photo taken during the parade sequence and which shows the marquee in closer detail. It is advertising DeMille’s previous film SAMSON AND DELILAH, which was scheduled to go into general release on March 28, 1951. |

Okay, who can come up with this: what other well-known movie had a shot regarding DeMille's filming of Samson and Delilah?
According to Joe Bradbury’s 1988 WHITE TOPS article on Ringling-Barnum’s 1951 season, the parade through Sarasota’s business district took place on February 17th. In an attempt to hold down the size of the crowd DeMille did not announce when the parade would take place. Even so, word got out, and by the time the parade got underway, about 25,000 people were on hand. About 200 show personnel participated, along with 12 elephants, and a number of horses. DeMille and his camera crews rode in mobile camera vehicles. To accommodate the filming, the parade had to make two passes over the same route.
Sunset Boulevard?
Eric:
Bingo! You may select any prize from the top shelf!
When Norma called on Mr DeMille at Paramount, he was filming a scene from Samson and Delilah.
Dave,
You obviously didn't have enough lead on the botom of the cat Eric knocked off first try.
Reminds me of the time in the early 50's when a family friend took his daughter and one of her friends to the fair. Dad won a large plush the first time, but it cost him $20 to get the friend her plush.
Take of yourself,
Bob Kitto
