Hello Jerry
I'm researching a book about Alfred Court, during the 20 years he was a trainer. This is a very interesting picture as it shows the jaguar in the act, which should have been taken out by now and put into the new mixed group that Court trained. The trainer presenting the act in this picture is Harry Kovar. The act was taken over by Jo Walsh for the 1944 tour and Harry took over the new mixed group consisting of 9 tigers, 5 male lions and originally 2 leopards, 4 pumas and a jaguar - the jaguar that's in this picture. It also shows 2 Himalayan bears, one of these died before the season started - the female, Violetta. This act consisted of 6 male lions (with 2 spare), 2 polar bears, 2 Himalayan bears, 1 American black bear and 2 great Dane dogs. This was the act that the Kovar's originally presented, when they arrived in 1940. Could you please send me a high resolution of this picture as I would like to make a good copy for my research.

With all the blogs, Email, etc. we are fortunate to see an incredile amount of wild animal acts down thru the years. Fabulous training has been done and it would be hard to choose the best. As a young man in this biz. without the acces we have now I had no idea what had been or even what was being done. Court with his variety of acts and animals was the guy to be sure and then the fact that there was not so much danger involved kind of took away the myth of Jacobs, Beatty, etc. I still am caught up with that danger, snarling, brave subjegator and even tho I admire the training. I will say that GGW brought both aspects to his presentations. I am sure there are others. However I would take Beatty over Court. Johnny
