Gary - - you said this white rhino was born in 1976. That would have made him 17 when C&B got him in 1993. If he is still at Acadiana Zoo, he would be 35.
According to longevity expert Richard Weigl, the record for a white rhino is 45 years. It is held by a male that was imported to the Brookfield Zoo in 1962, went to Wildlife Safari, Winston, Oregon in 1988 and was still there in 2004. For all I know, it may still be there adding to its record.
The record for all types of rhinos (as of 2004) is 49 years held by the male black rhino Clyde at Columbus zoo. He died in December 2000.
