This was an actual presentation on Ringling. Note John O'Brian and later Daniel [Denny] Curtiss among other trainers. Once the basic horses are routined and the structure of presentation has the kinks worked out it would be possible to keep it in the program dfor consistant years with capable trainers. The sixtten horse hitch for years on Cole would be an example with various horses participating over the years it was in the program and including the roman rider. I drove it on opening night in Chicago stadium when the girl got hurt in practice.johnny

Are there any photographs available of this "supposed" feat? It seems that this oft used litho is the only representation of "marvel". Could it be one of those "Little Baby Boo" or "last living giraffe" deals mentioned? What do you supposed kept those horse's from stepping off of the tier's? Could it have just been 61 horse's in the ring, as was done later in a larger, oval type ring?

Jorgen Christensen also presented the act and a model of the act was made by Charlie Deck. I believe Bob Clark had the model done by Deck. There are pics of the model in an old Bandwagon article on Jorgen.

I seem to remember actual photos of the act but cannot recall in what book they appeared.

As John said various trainers presented it through the years.

Moving the various tiers was a bear of a job. It may be in the Christensen article where that is discussed.

You are a little confused Bob. This was done on Ringling back in Baraboo days. Jorgen did a 72 Caroseul using ponies and camels along with horses. Yes there is a model somewhere lost in the shuffle. Jorgen did it in the "garden" and during final days jOHN rINGLING said that prop boss Mickey Graves had complained that the sections of oak planking would be too much to handle on "the road" and asked him to go back to the 24 horse liberty which he did do. Interesting to note that Denny Curtiss wife, Edna would in later years as a widow would marry Jorgen Cristianson.johnny
