..Morning Buckles, I found this story to go along with your post yesterday about Cole Bros. Margaret 1943-11-06 San Antonio Light Fines Paid By 2 Circus Men Two employes of the Cole Bros. Circus in Corpus Christi Friday, authorized a local agent to appear in County Court at Law No. 2 and pay $25 fines on two charges of conducting a sham wrestling match. The cases were filed by Deputy Labor Commissioner Ward J. Conner and J. Louis Quintanilla, deputy boxing and wrestling commissioner, against Tom Terrell, circus general manager; Harry Thomas, wrestling timekeeper and Whitey Govro, wrestler who challenged any circus spectator to a match. Conner and Quintanilla said an employee of the circus posed as a soldier and accepted the challenge, thereby constituting a "sham and fake wrestling match". The case against Terrell was dismissed. "Enclosed is a picture of Mr. Terrell, I wonder who the fixer was?" Buckles |
