Yes it is. He was a lot of fun. We shared a table in the cook house and Joe would entertain me by reciting passages from various dramatic shows he had toured with. My favorite was from "10 Nights In A Bar Room". After entering with a flourish he would announce, "After a long and tedious trip by stage coach, here am I in the happy village of Cedarville!" They don't make entrances like that anymore.
A lot of those old rep show bills began with a character coming to the footlights and explaining the situation to the audience.
Plunketts, Brunks, Herb & Helen Walters, Ross & Margaret McKay, the Beers & Barnes families, the Juggling Hendersons and many others came to circus from a rep background.
Joe Applegate joined Cristiani while we were in Los Angeles in 1959. I don't think he had been out since the Beatty railer closed in 1956. I believe he was later on Beatty-Cole for spell.
Applegate had a speaking role in RING OF FEAR, standing there with his Pepsi, talking to Pedro Gonzalez-Gonzalez ("The actor so nice they named him twice".)
