Notice the light attentence for the afternoon show as everyone is at work in the defense plants.
But the night shows were heavily attended, at least that was the case here in Nashville where I recall the many soldiers stationed here were admitted free.
There were so many that some were allowed to sit on the edge of the stages after they were no longer needed.
I recall Emmett Kelly offering some of them a leaf of his trademark cabbage.
I believe it is in Chappie Fox'x book, A TICKET TO THE CIRCUS, that we find a Ringling order for "heavy blue twill canvas". That top looked big in GSOE, but I agree this is the better concept of what that Big Top truly was in size.
