This photograph was taken in 1974 at Charlie Wood's "Storytown, USA" theme park in Glens Falls, New York. I performed in the flying act there that summer.
The elephant with the bad leg was Reed. Rex had him at Lion Country Safari, in Grand Prairie, Texas, where the park was unsympathetic and wanted Rex to 86 Reed or else. Rex departed, but I do not have the remaining history for Reed.

Buckles;
Tell me the history of this African, please.
I think this picture dates from the mid 1970's and shows "Reed", "Gardner" and "McLain" (not to be confused with a later Asian of the same name).

Rex & these 3 did a number of
outdoor thrill dates for the
Coronas family (his in-laws)
& I remember him telling me as
long as the elephnt wasn't in
much distress (I guess he was
able to tell) he would keep it
in the working group
I think this was shortly before
he went out to the Vargas show
