More on the Green Hornet #6

GH-6, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This image of the Green Hornet stunning the leopard with "Hornet gas" was probably made during the actually filming. (I doubt if the leopard would have tolerated too many re-takes, especially one staged just for the benefit of the View-Master cameraman.) The View-Master image actually captured the action much better than does the shot that appears in the TV episode!)

View-Master’s GREEN HORNET packet is now a VERY desirable collectible, and whenever one turns up on eBay, it usually sells for big, and I do mean BIG bucks! Not bad for a TV show that was cancelled after only 26 episodes!

At a major toy industry trade show held early in 1966, all the talk was about the new Green Hornet TV show that was due to premier in the fall. View-Master hadn’t considered doing a set of Green Hornet reels and was unprepared for what was shaping up to be a merchandising bonanza. Undaunted, the company’s rep at the trade show made a quick trip to a local ad agency, “borrowed” a drafting table, and designed a Green Hornet packet cover on the spot. As soon as this cover was put on display, the orders started to pour in. Luckily, View-Master was later able to obtain the rights to produce such a packet and was able to fill all the orders.
