More Info on 1977 elephant transfer!

Something didn't sound right with the description of the
Blue Show elephant transfer so I dug out my ledgers to
jog my memory.
The reason we stayed in the motel was because our
mobile home had already been moved down to Ruskin.
For some reason Axel was leary of the outdoor arrangement
so we worked the last two days off the outdoor picket line.
As noted he brought in 17 elephants and we left the Park
with 22.

That was a neat event that day at the park. Buckles crew was in their show costumes, Axel's crew came in their Khakis and looked like a chain gang coming in off the road. (which I guess was the truth!)

I was working guest control and such and when we asked our supervision about how would the elephants react when the two different herds got together, they looked really confused and said this had never been done before. So we were a little nervous as to what could happen. I had confidence in Buckles and folks, but with critters this big, you never know.

Well Anna May and Miss Barbara came in and anchored the middle, the home team lined up on the left and the visitors lined up on the right of Anna May and did their stand up thing. Not a problem, beautiful display of 37 elephants and some good PR for the park and the RBBC.

It was a big deal and a great way "changing of the guard" at the park.

There surely must be but I only recall seeing one, a shot of Lou Jacobs getting up on an elephant and I can't even remember which one.
