The Johnsons spent seven months in the Ituri Forest with the Mbuti people. (The forest’s high humidity caused batteries to deteriorate, wire and connections to corrode and mildew to form on the camera cases.) Here, Martin shares cigars with two tribesmen. |

I recall in their booksphotos with a tribe of these little people, referred to as "pygmys". Whatever happened to them? Maybe someone out there would have insight. We see more more of Africa nations in the news, good and bad,but nothing about these people. Obviously they did exist. Are they extinct? I wonder? John herriott
This movie was shown again in Hot Springs when I was in Grade School.
In this scene when the little people approached, the first thing they said was, "Tobahho!" "Tobahho!"
Col: As far as I know pygmy tribes still exist in the Ituri forests of Central Africa, although they have been stained by the passage of time and too much contact with the outside world.
Lewis Cotlow'a book "Zanzabuku" which came out in the '50's or early '60's is an interesting read.
Best to you all,
Paul Gutheil
