 jump down and smack him on the butt. One day in doing this he startled "Barney" who cracked him across the head with his ivory and sent him rolling into the gutter where he lay. The parade continued on leaving him to walk back to ther lot. He added that these two brought this cage on their way to the lot each morning, hauled it around in parade and dropped it off at the crossing each night on their way back to the cars.  |

Looks like the single tree and shafts are bolted to the wagon. Not much fun for the poler on the flat car. Notice Barney has almost a wheeler type harnes (breeching seat) with a lead from it going to the forward elephant harness. The chains from the single tree going to his harness and he is doing all the work. Great set of photos. p.j.
