Both of Proske's titles reside in my archives. LIONS, TIGERS, AND ME was the US version, offered by Henry Holt, in '56. MY TURN NEXT is the British rendering, from Museum Press, in '57.
The hip injury was inflicted by his lead tigress, Judith. Mabel Stark knew him well, and told me Proske literally sat on bone. You can see Proske dancing with her on YouTube, looking for "Coney Island Wild Animal Act - 1940s".
His 8' tall cage sections were joined by a locking device inclusive in the frames, and his cage and the Beatty tunnel were the two most finger-grabbing, knuckle-busting piles of plunder used by cat acts, and I handled both.

Surprised somebody didn't mention his book, "Lions, Tigers, and Me". I read it in about one day when I was 15.
