Monte Carlo #1

Buckles ...

Thought you'd get a chuckle from these pix of Flavio and Princess Stephanie.
A little "photo op" for the current, 35th Monte Carlo Fest...

Stay well,

Mike Martin

I met Flavio in Houston, Texas with ringling and gave him some American circus items for this collection. He was so grateful and very nice to us.
He offered us tickets to the show but we had already had bought ours.
We had back stage passes from him and this was the first time in my life no body from ringling tried to run us out of there.
His elephants had lights on them and his rhino act was first for me.
What a show he put on and the star of that unit.
He gave me and autographed poster that I now have in my circus room.
There private railroad cars had the doors in the middle of the cars instead of at the ends. I can hear Tim Holst say what those cars cost Ringling to do that.
I received Christmas cards from him and had an invite to come to Italy to see his circus Americano.
When they left to return to Italy I heard they had a container full of circus goodies.
What a great performer he is.

I was 10 years old when the 120th Ed. Came to Chicago. Ofcourse this was several years before the ringling "pre show" but my Dad and me would always get to the arena hours before the shoe began. In hanging out near the back door at the Rosemont Horizon we met someone related to Flavio and they offered to take us inside to meet him. I remember walking down the long inclined ramp and inside to find the elephants leaving the Arena.. Then Flavio came over and just talked to my Dad and I...I remember him telling me to make sure I study hard in school!

I thought Flavio was terrific and at the time thought he was Ringlings new star replacement for Gunther...I was surprised he only did one tour with RBBB, do you think this was his plan or that Feld only warned him for one tour??? It just seems he could have become a big star with RBBB..

In addition I always consider the 120th Ed. One of my favorite shows--beautiful Latin themed spec., The Quiros high wire ( so much better than any wire acts today), and a great Clown Alley.

PS-- Go Bears!!

Brandon,

I would imagine there is probably more to the story, more than we will ever know. But, it would be fun if someone else on the Blog shared their behind the scenes stories. ~frank
