This is the year the Hoxie show hit the big time!!Perhaps the best show that Hoxie and John Hall put together. It was all circus and picture perfect from start to finish. Not to forget 11 bulls and their first ever flying act. John Herriott as ringmaster was top notch. His dressage act was worth the price of admission. Sadly it was the last time the show played my little hometown for 8 years.Residents of St.Cloud,Fl from 1967 to 1972 watched as it grew from a small show to its zenith.Every year getting better and better. Americans today dont know what they have missed.Back in those days children didnt have "Christmas everyday!!"Circus day was an event that if you were lucky came once a year.Just getting a dollar to go wasnt always easy. Sad part was just as soon as the magic began it was quickly gone.A wonderful memory to cherish forever. Perhaps the only part better was the friendships I made with Hoxie and John Hall. THey made the circus fans right at home on every lot.
Hoxie Circus was a Great One Ring Tent Show comming through my town annually in the 1970s . I ALWAYS looked forward to seeing & Photographing IT & one morning I was hangen around on the Lot watching them as they were Setting Up The Tent & a worker approached me ( in My Straw Hat & Shabby Suit Getup I wore to Special Events then ) stating : Mr. Hoxie sent him over to ask me " IF I wanted A Job with the Show " - I was Quite Supprised , Even Impressed ; although I did Declined - I soon focussed on this as a Meaningfull Quest , as I liked the thought of being involved with so many of these Unusual Animals & Human Tallents & Skills Combined & I lived very comfortiably in an Ole Hay Barn anyway making Unusual Pottery & Visual Art - often a Lonely but Very Focused Day .
I also recall meeting a Mike Burbon ( who wore an Eye Patch ) that Briefly came around The Elberon Ranch & West End, N.J. between 1972 & 1976 that was a Circus Clown & an Interesting Charactor in those times .

Hey Anonymouse if you made all
those friends why be afraid to
tell us (& them) who you are
I think my cousin Mike Bourbon
was clowning on the Hoxie show
that year (72) He had started
on CBCBC in the early 60s & also
spent several years on big bertha
Chic:
In regard to Chics comments I am anonymous.John Hall would right away know who I was.I am no showboat!
I believe Mike Bourbon was their in 1973.
Thanks Bill
It's nice to know who makes the
comments as we are (mostly) all
at least aquaintances or friends
Mike also did a spell as "Clarkie"
the Clark Gum Clown
HIYA CHIC!
Mike Bourbon was a dedicated clown.
Nice guy, good personality and great sense of humor!
I heard a rumor that he has left us.
Hope that it is NOT true.
Yes Frank I'm sorry to say Mike
(aka Donald Burnhardt) Bourbon
died many years ago after several
serious bouts of health issues
The story of our getting back
together after many years apart
is pretty funny & I'll call you
He was a very good clown
