The gag here is that Lou is inside the larger prop, scooting it around, in a panic to find the door once he finds out Beatty has company. The prop guys must have had a time of it, trying to create the bamboo-and-vine effect on the arena. A copy of this frame, autographed by Beatty to Shemp and his wife, was recently up for auction, opening at $6,999.99. I think I heard a still, small voice say, "Ye with thine Beatty plunder, go thou, and do likewise."
