Just how did they get a chair and seated man to rest on the tusks elevated in a near horizontal position? Did he climb down onto them from the head, or did he ride the tusks up and then have a chair handed to him?
The sketches illustrating the article all appear to be taken from life, quite accurately, and thus are not the frequently seen "artist's concept." So, perhaps there's something to be learned about how such an act was presented.
