Africa Screams #29

Africa_Screams-29, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

The little mini-car that Lou drives up in near the end of the film is a Crosley, an actual car produced by the Crosley Motor Co. beginning in 1939. Discontinued during the war years, it went back into production in 1946 and was sold until 1952, when the company folded. (Back when gasoline sold for only a few cents a gallon, the idea of owning a small, fuel-efficient car didn’t seem like all that much of an advantage.)

Now in the Public Domain, AFRICA SCREAMS is readily and inexpensively available. (It’s worth having just to see the sequence where Clyde Beatty is working his lions.)

My first car was a 1946 Crosley. WOW what memories. I drove it from Houston TX to St. Louis in 1951 and almost made it. That'a another story. Thanks for the memories.
