1917 Clifton-Kelly Shows #1 (From Buckles)

Scan00000010188, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Stamped on the back of each picture in this set is:
"Original of this photograph is the property of William H. B. Jones
P.O. Box, Box 777, Galveston, Texas."

This might ring a bell with Kingston.

"Old" Jonesey shot several great sets of circus and carnival photos in the 1910s to 1930s. Some are the only visual records of those shows. He was a gregarious fellow, came north for a couple Old Milwaukee Days parades, attended a CHS convention and then faded away like all of the circus photo dealers of yore. His negatives were sold piecemeal by his young widow. Many were of railroad topics and perhaps that's where his show views might be revealed some day.

Buckles,
Yes I got to meet Jonesey but not in Galveston but in Hattiesburg, Miss.
We corresponded alot and I bought some pics from him.
Then when I found out he wanted to sell negatives I went to see him.
He was a nice old guy and I wanted the Cole-Beatty 1937 negs he took in Galveston.
I bought many negs from him as he had a room full of everything.
the room was piled high to the celing and smelled of rapid fixer this is used in film development and smells like rotten eggs.
He was in his p j's and his young wife wanted nothing to do with any of this.
What I regret is not buying the old folding camera he took these pictures with as it took like 6 by 9 negatives larger than post card size. He knew what he was doing as his pictues were sharp focus and exposure right on. And thousands of negtaives
He shot pictues of everything in town and kodak must have loved him.
