Spunky #14

Spunky-14, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

While a park pony, Spunky is seen by a little boy who points him out to his father, mentioning that the pony is much like the one his father had when he was a little boy. The father turns out to be Rob, now a grown man. Identifying Spunky by a distinctive scar hidden under his mane, Rob arranges to buy him back. The book ends with Spunky back on the family’s estate and assured of a happy and comfortable retirement.

Long out of print, used copies of SPUNKY can still be found one-line. (One good source is abebooks.com.) Unlike many of the children’s books that are written today, it does not try to promote some liberal, PC agenda. All in all, it is a timeless classic that many young readers will enjoy.

CONCLUDED!
