These photos are part of the Illinois State University's "Milner Library" circus collection. They are from color slides taken by well known circus fan /photographer Sverre Braathen,(the Paul Gutheil of his day).
The collection can be viewed by going to: http://tempest.lib.ilstu.edu/ , then select "Passion for Circus".
There are hundreds of beautiful color images of the Ringling show from 1941 - 1956. I was made aware of this collection from the CHS newsletter by Bob Cline. I also understand that more photos will be added in the future.
We who love the circus and it's history are most greatful to the ISU Milner Library for sharing these priceless photos on the internet!
Vickie,
Wonderful photos from a great photographer and the world's greatest film good old Kodak Kodachrome.
Photos like this makes my day.

Thanks for the website info Jimmy
Carl
The four men at left would be Oscar, Lucio, Davisio and Papa. The man on the right is Belmonte and that must be Mogadore kneeling in front. Don't know the young man in the back. The middle girl I think is Ortans and the blonde would be Marion. Don't know the girl with the long hair. A little help, please.
Right back atcha Mr Cole; you are a mighty fine photographer yourself.
A number of years ago I purchased some ephemera at a Circus display in of all places, Secaucus, NJ (once "famous" for its pig farms). Turns out items were from collection of Sverre Braathen and included some Ringling checks signed by several of the brothers.
I believe Mr Braathen was also a Circus Music historian and perhaps musician as well.
Jim: I dropped the ball in regard to your cat trainer photo project, couldn't get photos to you on the internet. My sincere apologies. Anyway we can try another route or is it way too late?
Best, Paul
I keep thinking someone will jump in with those other names. Was Pete old enough to have been the guy in back? I wonder if the girl with the long hair might be June?
Vickie filled in the blanks for me. That is Pete in the back and the girls are from left Ortans, Corky and Marion.
Thanks Paul for the mention of
Secaucus as it brings to mind that
we used to roll up the windows in
the car as we drove through on the
way from my Grandparents farm in
Red Bank to the BIG CITY
